Step 1: Setting up a project

  1. Go to the Adobe Creative Express homepage Adobe Creative Express Home.
  2. If you already have an Adobe account, sign in using your credentials. If not, click on the “Start Now” button to create a new account.
  3. Once you have an account and are signed in, select the “Create a project” button to begin your creative endeavor.
  4. Note that if you have a UCSC email address, you have access to a free Adobe account, which can be utilized for your creative projects.

To access the video editing features in Adobe Creative Express, follow these steps:

  1. Look for the tab bar at the top of your screen.
  2. From the tab options available, select the “Video” tab.
  3. This will take you to the video editing section of Adobe Creative Express, where you can start working on your video projects.

After accessing the video editing section in Adobe Creative Express, you have two options to begin your project:

  1. Select a Template: If you prefer a head start or need some inspiration, you can choose a pre-designed template from the available options. Templates provide a foundation for your video project, including layout, transitions, and effects. Browse through the template library and select the one that best fits your vision.
  2. Start from Scratch: If you have a specific idea in mind or prefer to create a video completely tailored to your needs, you can start from scratch. This option allows you to build your video project from the ground up, giving you full creative control over every aspect of the design, including adding media, editing, transitions, and effects.

Next, select a template to start or your project or start from scratch.

After setting up your project in Adobe Creative Express, you will be directed to the workspace page dedicated to your project. This workspace serves as the central area where you can access and manage all the elements and features related to your project, allowing you to work efficiently and effectively.

On the workspace page, you will find various tools, menus, and panels specifically designed to assist you in editing and refining your video project. These may include timeline controls, media libraries, text editing options, effects and transitions menus, and more, depending on the specific features available in Adobe Creative Express.

Take some time to familiarize yourself with the layout and functionality of the workspace page. This will enable you to navigate and utilize the available tools and resources effectively, ensuring a smooth and productive editing experience.

Once your project has been set up, you will land on the workspace page for your project.

Step 2: To collaborate with your team on your Adobe Creative Express project, follow these steps:

  1. On the project window, locate the “Share” button at the top of the interface.
  2. Click on the “Share” button to initiate the sharing process.
  3. A sharing menu will appear, providing you with various options to invite team members to your project.
  4. Enter the email addresses of the team members you want to invite. You can invite multiple team members by separating the email addresses with commas or semicolons.
  5. Customize the sharing permissions, such as allowing team members to view, edit, or comment on the project.
  6. Optionally, you can include a personal message to provide additional context or instructions to your team members.
  7. Once you have filled in the necessary information, click the “Send” or “Invite” button to send the invitations to your team members.

Your team members will receive an email invitation with a link to access the project. They may need to sign in to their Adobe accounts or create new accounts if they don’t have one already.

By sharing your project, you can collaborate with your team members, allowing them to view, edit, and provide feedback on the project, fostering a collaborative and efficient workflow.

After clicking the “Share” button in Adobe Creative Express, a menu will appear, enabling you to add people to your project via email. Here’s how you can proceed:

  1. Click on the “Share” button at the top of the project window.
  2. In the sharing menu that appears, look for the option to add people through email. It may be labeled as “Add collaborators,” “Invite via email,” or similar wording.
  3. Click on this option, and a pop-up menu will appear, prompting you to enter the email addresses of the individuals you want to invite to your project.
  4. Type in the email addresses of your team members, separating each address with a comma or semicolon.
  5. If available, you may have the option to customize the sharing permissions for each collaborator (e.g., view-only, edit, comment).
  6. Once you have entered the email addresses and set the desired permissions, click the “Send” or “Invite” button to send the invitations.

Step 3: To work with the layout of your project in Adobe Spark, follow these steps:

  1. Open your project in Adobe Spark.
  2. Look for the Template menu located in the upper right corner of your project window.
  3. Left-click on the Template menu to open it.
  4. A dropdown menu will appear, displaying a variety of pre-made templates that you can choose from.
  5. Browse through the available templates and select the one that best suits the layout and design you have in mind for your project.
  6. Left-click on the chosen template to apply it to your project.
  7. The template will be automatically applied, updating the layout and design elements of your project according to the selected template.

Step 2: Sharing your Project with your team:

At this point, you are able to invite your team members to your project.

To invite team members, click the “Share” button at the top of the project window.

After selecting Invite, a menu will pop up that allows you to add people to your project through email.

Add as many team members as your project requires.

Step 3: Working with the Layout

Adobe Spark features a number of pre-made templates to help you design the basic layout of your project.

To view and select a theme, left-click the Template menu in the upper right of your project window.

After opening the Template menu in Adobe Spark, you will be presented with a range of different designs for your project. Each design offers its own unique visual style and layout options. Additionally, within each design, you will have the ability to choose from various color choices.

To customize the colors of your selected design, follow these steps:

  1. Left-click on the Template menu in the upper right corner of your project window.
  2. Choose a design from the available options that best matches your vision for the project.
  3. Once you have selected a design, you will notice that there are multiple color choices available for that specific design.
  4. Explore the different color options by left-clicking on each color swatch to see how it affects the overall appearance of your project.
  5. If you wish to experiment with different color combinations, some designs may offer a “shuffle” or “randomize” option. Left-click on this button to automatically generate a new color palette for your design.
  6. Continue adjusting the colors and shuffling the palette until you find the combination that suits your project best.

Step 4: To create a new slide in Adobe Spark, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the “add scene” button, which is typically positioned at the bottom right corner of the timeline.
  2. Click on the “add scene” button to create a new slide.
  3. After clicking the button, a new slide will be added to your project, ready for you to customize and add content to.
  4. You can repeat this process to create multiple slides for your project, allowing you to build a dynamic and engaging presentation.

With the Grid menu, you have the option to choose from a variety of fundamental slide designs.

Once you have finalized the layout of your slide, you can proceed to incorporate text and media into your presentation.

Important Note: Keep in mind that each slide has a maximum duration of 30 seconds. If you need to adjust the duration of a slide, simply drag the edges of the slide on the timeline bar to modify its length.

Step 5: Adding Media

To incorporate photos, videos, and other media into your video, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the left-hand menu bar in the Adobe Creative Express interface.
  2. Look for the “Media” option on the menu bar.
  3. Click on the “Media” option to access the media library or import options.
  4. Depending on the version and features of Adobe Creative Express, you may have various choices for adding media:
    a. Media Library: If you have previously uploaded media to your Adobe account or project, you can browse through your library to select the desired files.
    b. Import: Alternatively, you may have the option to import media directly from your computer or other connected devices. Click on the import option and navigate to the location where your media files are stored.
  5. Once you have selected the media you want to include, click on the “Add” or “Import” button to add them to your project.
  6. The selected media will then appear in your media library within Adobe Creative Express, ready to be added to your video project.
  7. Drag and drop the desired media files onto the timeline or specific slides to incorporate them into your video.
  8. Repeat the process to add additional media as needed, ensuring that your video content aligns with your creative vision.

Step 6: Adding Text

To incorporate text into your project, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the Text tab, which is positioned below the Media tab in Adobe Spark.
  2. Click on the Text tab to access the available options for adding and customizing text.
  3. In the Text tab, you will find a menu that offers pre-loaded fonts and text styles to choose from. Explore the menu to find the font and style that best suits your project’s aesthetic.
  4. If you prefer to use your own text, you can upload it by selecting the appropriate option within the Text tab.
  5. Click on the desired font or text style to apply it to your project.
  6. Once applied, you can further customize the text by adjusting its size, color, alignment, and other formatting options.
  7. Repeat the process to add additional text elements to your project, ensuring that they are placed appropriately within the slides or timeline.

After choosing the text for your project, a text editor will be displayed on the slide.

Step 8: Exporting

To export your video, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the download option at the top of your work area in Adobe Spark.
  2. Click on the download option to initiate the export process.
  3. A menu will appear with various export options and settings.
  4. Select the desired export format and resolution for your video.
  5. Choose the destination folder or location where you want to save the exported video file.
  6. Click on the “Export” or “Download” button to start the export process.
  7. The video will be processed and saved to your specified location, ready for use or sharing.

In Adobe Spark, you can easily generate a .mp4 video file of your presentation by simply choosing a destination to save it. Spark will automatically create the video for you.

Alternatively, if you prefer to share your video online, you can utilize the Share menu. This feature allows you to generate a sharable link that can be used to share and embed your video on various websites and platforms across the web.
